About Nina
By day, Nina sells software but her real estate investments have grown to become a significant part of her financial plan and also a great passion. She has owned and lived in four homes from varied eras (three of which she upgraded and sold for tidy profits, one she occupies now). She also owns investment properties and flipped a fixer a few years ago in Palm Springs.
Nina started blogging because she was looking for a creative outlet in her life. She kept a journal off and on from her early teens throughout her late twenties. In 1979, Nina’s writings were about her schoolgirl crush on Michele Lee (aka Karen on Knot’s Landing). Michele Lee was on the cover of Good Housekeeping and this issue remained in her bedroom desk drawer throughout high school. All the neighborhood girls had posters of Scott Baio and Shaun Cassidy while Nina was forced to sneak peeks of Michele Lee in between her algebra problems.
Over the years, Nina learned that the “famous woman fantasy” runs rampant with lesbians throughout the years of puberty. Jeanine, her life-partner, confessed that her fantasy was a reoccurring sequence that involved both Lindsay Wagner and Kate Jackson tackling her. Where would all of us be without 1970’s television?
In her early twenties, Nina continued to journal but the musings were elevated to more attainable pursuits: women that she actually knew. She happily left behind the untouchable celebrities of her youth and it was through these writings that she came to terms with her sexuality. After busting out of the closet and settling into a healthy relationship there was less conflict to work out on paper and the journaling ended.
Fast-forward several years and Nina was in a place where she missed writing and expressing herself on paper. She decided that blogging might be a good alternative to journaling. Instead of rambling on about day-to-day life, she picked a topic that was of interest to her and created Sitting Pretty, a blog about personal finance and real estate investing.
In April 2006, Nina launched Queercents to offer a distinctly queer perspective on money for the LGBT community. Nina resides in Newport Beach, CA and may be reached at nina@queercents.com
