[…] Queercents does a recap of Suze Orman’s coming out. My comment’s still the same. Who cares? She’s got a creepy tan! But the commentary by my Queerfriends on the matter is rather interesting. […]

[…] I later figured out that her financial planner was really just a guy pushing variable life and annuities and this was called financial planning. I eventually wised up. I’m on Suze Orman’s side with this one: always buy term insurance. Even so, he introduced me to the concept of putting away a set amount every month (pay yourself first) and this was the start of my financial education and financial plan. […]

[…] 9. To parody the lesbian music scene, you created the folk-rock sensation, Indigo Etheridge. Now that Suze Orman has come out of the closet, do you have any plans to spoof financial advisors? You know, I hadn’t thought about it, thank you for giving me the idea. If our show gets picked up for a 2nd season I’ll pitch it. I’ll start working on my Suze Orman. I have to find the perfect wig. […] 4. Much has been written recently about Suze Orman announcing that she is a lesbian. Do you think that she stayed in the closet all these years because it was favorable to her earning potential? Why would she choose to communicate this to the public now? Ben: I don’t really know. I thought her coming out was remarkably low-key. As popular and well-known as she is, there wasn’t much recognition of the fact that she had come out and I think many folks in our community aren’t even aware of the fact that she did. Not everyone reads the New York Times… […]

[…] A few other bloggers continued the discussion on their sites including David on Finance and Gather Little by Little. Back at Get Rich Slowly some of the comments spiraled into Christian-bashing and missed the point of FMF’s post. After all, a personal finance blog is supposed to be “personal” and if someone’s personal faith influences how they think about money, aren’t they free to write about it. I’m not a religious person, but even I read FMF’s blog from time to time and when he starts quoting scripture, I typically skim over those passages much the same way I skim an article written by Suze Orman where she assumes all women are idiots when it comes to money. Move on, right? […]

[…] 9. Why do you think celebrities like Suze Orman and John Amaechi stayed in the closet during their primary earning years? Was it only about money? I definitely don’t think it was all about money. I think the path to coming out is something unique for everyone and more often than not, highly complex. But in this TMZ world, the more celebrities who come out the faster that education equation will extrapolate out into the world because of the media. […]

[…] She continues on and writes, “Whenever I am asked what is the most stupid financial move I ever made in my entire life, I don’t have to think very long. It was when I leased my 1987 730i BMW. I leased because I wanted to impress my love interest at the time with this fancy-schmancy car that I couldn’t afford to buy. And the fact that I couldn’t afford it was about the last thing I wanted anyone, let alone my partner, to know.” Side note: Suze practically came out in that paragraph. Go Suze! […]
