Now for a bit of shameless promotion: Last night I had the privilege of working for the very talented Mike Daisey, a monologuist who has been described as a “master storyteller.” His monologue, called “If You See Something Say Something” was both incredibly powerful and informative, speaking about Homeland Security and the issue of defense in America. If you happen to be in the New York City area, his show is opening off Broadway starting October 15th.

  • One component of Mike Daisey’s monologue was about TSA, and how it it often serves to make us feel more secure, rather than provide actual security. All of my scientist friends have noted how crazy the 3.4 oz rule is, so the fact that they might be getting rid of it is quite nice. (Read it at the Wall Street Journal)
  • I’m a self-professed huge tech nerd (though not necessary competent). Lifehacker’s reader formulated list of the top (free!) programs available is great then. (Read it at Lifehacker)
  • If you’ve been thinking you should take up a hobby but don’t know where to start, JD has some suggestions. A good friend of mine has recently begun brewing beer, which he finds really satisfying and it’s always fun to enjoy his latest batch. (Read it at Get Rich Slowly)
  • It’s hard to not worry about the current economy, but I Will Teach You To Be Rich has 10 links that can help. (Read it at I Will Teach You To Be Rich)

Queercents Flashback: Since this post already has a strong Colby association (Mike Daisey graduated Colby Class of ’96), the only way to round it out is by doing a flashback to Nina’s ten money questions with Jenny Boylan, Colby’s professor of creative writing.
