Adam Nelson QueercentsAfter multiple less-than-successful attempts to relocate Adam Nelson continues to reside in his home state of Wisconsin where he’ll graduate from the University of Wisconsin with a law degree in 2008. “There are probably worse fates” he says with a wink and a nod. He recently founded Treading Together LLC a professional speaker bureau, consulting, and event management services firm. Treading Together is actually the second speaker bureau Adam founded. As an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin”Eau Claire he developed a speaker bureau through the university that focused on diversity, multiculturalism, communication, and sensitivity. He delivered his first motivational speech entitled “Meeting The Challenge” when he was in 9th grade. His audience was Downsville Elementary School’s fourth grade class.

Adam enjoys blogging as a way of sharing (and generating) new or creative ideas. Some of his articles can also be found at the website and blog of the University of Wisconsin’s lgbt law student organization qlaw.org. Writing for Queercents is an opportunity to share his experiences as a small business owner and twenty-something budgeter — both of which are somewhat of a rare breed. His grandma taught him to use coupons and instilled the value of conservation and savings. The bi-weekly series “Weekend Entrepreneur” introduced by Adam exclusively for Queercents explores the success and trials experienced by lgbt and ally community members as they build small enterprises in their free time away from day jobs.

Contributing to Queercents is also an opportunity to stand on one of Adam’s professional soapboxes. As a motivational speaker and personal coach he spends a great deal of time talking about financial responsibility. After just a short time in business he discovered that few people invest sufficient time and energy into designing and maintaining a money-saving budget. In many cases an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. In personal finances an hour of planning is worth a years of freedom in retirement. His first article with Queercents spells out the basics of his own personal budgeting system.
