Since childhood, I’ve had a fascination with physics, the ways in which objects and energy behave in our world. It became helpful to me lately to think of wealth in terms of physics. Below are some scientific laws as I relate them to the world of money in my own life. This is just one way of looking at money, but one that many of today’s great entrepreneurs seem to be agreeing magnet.jpgwith.

Einstein’s Theory of Energy (as it relates to money): If money=energy, then wealth is neither created nor destroyed. Wealth only moves from place to place and takes various forms. My wealth may be currently in the form of an idea but is just waiting to transform into dollars.

Gravitation=the phenomenon through which all objects in the universe attract each other.

The Law of Attraction: how do I conceptualize how money comes to me?

If you’re not on Oprah’s favorite new bandwagon, The Law of Attraction, hop on now. Yes, this video is a little cheesy, but I truly believe that if you can be open to it, you’ll get rich eventually. If I conceptualize money as some green things which I have less of than some other people, my focus is only on that which I do not have. However, If I focus on the fact that I have wonderful creative ideas, mental faculties and many untapped resources, then I focus on possibility.

The Law of Attraction, also called “The Secret”, basically means that whatever put your energy into thinking about, you will bring to you. Positive thoughts bring positive outcomes. In physics, the Law of Attraction states that like things tend to come together. My negative thoughts about money will bring negative situations with money. Negative thinking and worry about money will not bring me wealth, it will bring me exactly the lack which I fear.

All of my ideas and faculties and resources are energy which have the potential to become wealth.

Potential Energy=Potential Money

Newton’s Third Law of Motion:

Newton’s third law of motion states that If two particles interact, the force exerted by the first particle on the second particle (called the action force) is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to the force exerted by the second particle on the first particle (called the reaction force). If we think of particles in terms of “energy” in the form of thought energy (which actually, is the physical movement of atoms from one neuron to another in your brain), I am the first particle and money is the second particle.

If my brain fears money issues (worry), my thought energy will move me in the opposite direction from money. If I am completely at rest about money (not thinking about it at all), I do not move toward money but money may or may not move toward me.

However, when I direct my thoughts positively toward money without fear or worry, I make contact with wealth. The amazing and rewarding part of this is that this third law of motion states that money will push toward me in equal magnitude to the positive energy I approach it with. After I wrote up this theory, I found this podcast on Newton’s 3rd Law of Money in terms of budgeting.

Unfortunately, I haven’t mastered positive and negative energy on a physical atomic level so that I can stay put exactly where I am and will money to me like a real magnet. (Okay, well, maybe some great meditators can do that, but they most likely wouldn’t be wishing for material wealth anyway). I am terrible at sitting meditation. I prefer meditating on a walk, to, say, the post office, where I can get something accomplished.

For someone like me who wants actual items like expensive chocolate and to own a house, the physics of money seem to only work only if I actually stop worrying and take positive action. The secrets of the universe always seem to require me to get specific about my goals and make steps toward them before “miracles” can happen.
