Surfgirl and I discuss semi-regularly where we would like to live and retire to. It’s a toss up between the Gulf coast and the Atlantic coast. We go back and forth and then we totally mess ourselves up when she suggests that we should just live in an RV and go to both coasts or anywhere for that matter.

Recently I came across a website for GLBT retirees in Santa Fe, NM called Rainbowvision properties. They say they take any age group of people, so this might be a nice idea; Surfgirl and I are pretty quiet except for the occasion mood of 80’s disco or trance music that makes us break out in dance.

They appear to still be putting people on a waiting list; 500.00 for a rental unit and 1,000.00 for a condo. The rentals range in price of 2743-4244 per month depending on what area you want to live in. Then there are membership fees and maintenance fees as well. If we want to buy a condo the prices range from 220,000 to 260,000; this is all for homes that range in the 1,000 — 1200 square feet.

The only downside is that there are no oceans nearby to jump into. But this did get me wondering if there are other communities out there that I didn’t know about, and there are. Some are just in the initial survey stages but others have places built

Other LGBT Retirement Communities

It is nice to know that as the years go by, should the future have for us a life of singlehood or coupledom; that there is a community in which to possibly retire to and still feel a part of something bigger. Even better, if it is appealing, is a goal to work towards and know that retirement won’t just be about the withdrawal of money from your 401k/IRA, but about continuing in a place where you are among like-minded individuals.
