“It’s the economy, stupid.” ~Bill Clinton

There has been a lot of hoopla this week about President Obama’s first 100 days in office. We’re in the middle of a media frenzy about the whole swine flu situation (which is a total cover up for a zombie uprising, imho). Yet the economy is the biggest issue that Obama has tackled since he moved into the White House in January.

In this lesbian’s opinion, Obama has done a good job so far. The $787 billion stimulus package was a good start, and I think that Obama is doing a lot to restore American’s confidence in itself. I’m not alone in my thinking – a new Gallup Poll shows that 56% of American adults approve of President Obama’s job performance so far. However, we’re still in the honeymoon phase of our relationship with the Obama administration. The real test will be to see what those numbers look like at this time next year.

I’m hopeful about President Obama’s ability to turn around the economy, but I’m not naive enough to believe that it will happen quickly. He may get to the end of his first term in office and things might be pretty depressing. But I think that Obama is taking the right approach by helping people in the United States remember that we’ve been through tough times as a nation before, and that the current economic crisis is really a test of our ingenuity and our ability to creatively solve problems. Simultaneously, I think it’s the perfect opportunity for America to make the switch to green technologies and put a stronger emphasis on education, community building, and preventative health care. And the Obama administration seems to be taking that approach, too.

As for the zombie uprising (aka “swine flu”), zombie aficionados will tell you that zombie outbreaks are always worse during a Republican administration, and that pitting our hopes of survival on centers of commerce is a big mistake. (If you’re looking for a place to hide out from the zombies, a shopping mall is always a poor choice.) To prepare yourself for the impending doom, I highly recommend The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z by Max Brooks. Don’t forget to stock up on canned goods and ammo, and always aim for the head.
