Though RuPaul’s Drag Race is more visible than ever right now, the show’s namesake is not. Over the past three months, outside of filming the reunion and finale episodes of Drag Race season 12 (in a mask) as well as a few mainstream network game show appearances, the drag performer has notably been absent from social media. And it’s not just Instagram.

RuPaul’s last post likes and posts on Twitter were from March. He’s wiped his platforms entirely’” some tweets still come up as Twitter’s cache.

This morning Ru fans realized that the posts on the official Instagram account had been zeroed out. Late last night, according to screen recordings, the posts began disappearing one-by-one. There was no indication or explanation of why, but some have assumed it might be for a large project. Others believed that Ru was being hacked.

To complicate matters worse is the fact that Drag Race alum Kameron Michaels also has an empty Instagram account.

Like RuPaul, Michaels also has wiped her Twitter account.

What is going on here?

With the timing of it all, one would assume that this a part of some sort of coordinated effort. That said, RuPaul has been dead silent on social prior as the world has gone through the global pandemic, and as the Black Lives Matter protests have been organized globally.

To our knowledge, the only Drag Race project launching this week outside of the latest episode of All Stars 5 is Canada’s Drag Race. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see if this is the sign of something new or of RuPaul and Kameron Michaels just being extremely bored, hacked, or hiding from the comments on social media.

Does this have something to do with the calling Ru out on social media over her not featuring more trans women? One Twitter comment from Sarah Downey said “Watch me commit reputational suicide as I defend ‘œtransphobes’ like @RuPaul & @jk_rowling, black conservatives, and most of all free speech in my manifesto (communist pun intended): ‘œThis PC witch-hunt is killing free speech, and we have to fight it:’

It’s 2020 so nothing really surprises us anymore but we may be finding out something soon on what is going on behind the scenes with the Queen of RPDR..
